Conditions We Treat
Dermatology covers hundreds of skin, hair, and nail conditions. Below are some of the most common we see and treat:

Skin
-
Acne
The most common skin condition in the U.S., acne can affect teens and adults alike. Left untreated, it may cause scarring and affect self-confidence and even mental health, but effective treatments—from topical therapy to advanced medications—are available.
-
Eczema
A chronic, itchy, and inflamed skin condition that often begins in childhood but can persist or flare throughout life. Treatment focuses on reducing inflammation, soothing the skin, and preventing triggers.
-
Hives (Urticaria)
Sudden itchy, raised welts often caused by allergic reactions. Identifying triggers and treatment with antihistamines or other medications can bring relief.
-
Moles & Skin Growths
Most moles are harmless, but changes in size, color, or shape should be evaluated. Dermatologists can monitor or remove concerning lesions.
-
Skin Cancer
The most common form of cancer in the U.S. Early detection is key, and treatments range from excision to Mohs surgery for precise removal with minimal tissue loss.
-
Psoriasis
An autoimmune disease that speeds up skin cell turnover, leading to scaly, inflamed patches. Treatments range from topical creams to biologic medications and phototherapy.
-
Rosacea
Causes facial redness, visible blood vessels, and acne-like bumps. While there’s no cure, treatment can greatly reduce symptoms and prevent progression.
-
Vitiligo
A condition where skin loses pigment in patches. While not harmful, it can affect self-image. Options include phototherapy and topical treatments to restore pigmentation.
-
Warts
Caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), warts are contagious but treatable with cryotherapy, topical therapies, and other in-office procedures.
-
Hair Loss
From pattern baldness to autoimmune causes like alopecia areata, hair loss can be distressing. We evaluate underlying causes and offer treatment options including medications, injections, and procedural therapies.
-
Nail Fungus
Characterized by thickened, discolored nails, fungal infections can be stubborn and spread over time. Effective oral and topical antifungal therapies are available.

Why did she choose dermatology as a specialty?
I chose Dermatology because it combines the science of medicine with the artistry of patient care. Skin health often has an immediate impact not only on physical well-being but also on confidence and quality of life, and I find it deeply rewarding to help patients in both areas. Dermatology allows me to treat a wide spectrum of conditions- from detecting and treating skin cancers to managing chronic conditions – offering both variety and long-term continuity of care. Most of all, I value the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients while guiding them toward healthier skin and overall wellness.
-
What aspects of patient care does she value most?
As a dermatologist, what I value most in patient care is building lasting trust through attentive listening and patient education. Skin conditions often carry not only physical discomfort but also emotional and psychological impact. I believe in creating a safe, respectful space where patients feel heard, understood, and empowered to take an active role in their treatment. My goal is always to provide personalized, evidence-based care that supports both skin health and overall well-being.

Where is she from originally and what brought her to Alaska?
I am originally from Homer and was raised here in Alaska before leaving the state to complete my medical training. I am passionate about rural medicine and providing excellent healthcare to all patients. I am an avid sport fisherman and love all activities outdoors. I particularly love downhill skiing, snow mobiling, horseback riding and fishing, though most of my free time is spent chasing my three little kids around.
